Did you know that Reynolds has been collaborating with local public radio station, WFDD, for three years now?
Radio 101 is WFDD's education program for high school students. It teaches interested students about journalism, technology, personal reflection and storytelling. At Reynolds, it began as an after school club and is now happening during the school day for journalism students.
Radio 101 is taught by Lopa Shah. Stories are produced by students with assistance from WFDD staff.
Lopa offers instruction and mentors interested Reynolds journalism students during their Newspaper classes. Stories are aired on WFDD, housed on their website, and shared through the national program--Youth Radio.
This program assists in our goal of helping students to be college and career ready, letting them know that their stories/thoughts/viewpoints DO matter, and encouraging exchange of ideas as we learn to thrive in this multicultural society. Stories are shared through RJR social media and sent to teachers.
Learning with and through our students is a goal for RJR
