Who participates in Arts for Academics at RJR?
Reynolds Arts for Academics Magnet Program is for ALL our students, faculty, and staff.
How do ALL students benefits from the arts at RJR?
At the end of their freshman year, students choose their Art Path. Arts Aware students choose to take electives courses other than arts courses; they still benefit from the arts enriched environment and campus-wide opportunities. Arts Infused students take at least three arts electives in addition to Seminar in the Arts. Arts Intensive students audition for placement in upper level arts courses, "major" in one arts discipline, and take arts courses in that discipline all four years of high school. These students participate in special competitions, exhibits, and programs. They may choose to have an internship in their area of interest after their junior year or during their senior year.
Where can I see the arts throughout Reynolds?
Throughout all our classrooms and across all the disciplines, you will find abundant opportunities for creativity, originality, and critical thinking.
Furthermore, Reynolds offers discrete arts courses in Visual Arts, Choral Music, Piano, Orchestra, Classical Guitar, Theater, Dance, and Creative Writing.
The Gfeller lunchtime stage is used for student performances and as an outdoor classroom. Students also take advantage of living in the City of Arts and Innovation through field trips, speakers, performers, internships, and master classes.
What is the Seminar in the Arts?
In the 9th grade, students will register for a year long course "Seminar in the Arts." The course consists of six, 4 ½ week sessions aimed at building skills necessary for success in high school and beyond. Each experience is designed to lay the foundation for building literacy and 21st century workplace skills. Throughout the year, students will build listening and discussion skills through exercises in Seminar Engagement; increase vocabulary and reading skills through an understanding of the Language of the Arts; develop communications skills by creating regular Journal entries; and practice presentation skills as they create and present their Portfolios.
How can I attend RJR and participate in Arts for Academics?
All students distracted to attend Reynolds will be exposed to the arts as described above; all RJR students participate in Arts for Academics. If you live in the RJR residential zone, you do not need to apply. If you live outside of the RJR residential zone, apply during the Magnet Application Period in January. Public school eighth graders will be able to sign up for classes through their middle schools.Private school students will need to make an appointment with their guidance counselors in the Spring after attending the Reynolds Revue to learn about Arts, Academics, and Athletics at Reynolds.
