When looking at schools and making decisions about a next step, Academic Excellence and the ability to open doors for your student is at the forefront of most parents' minds.
At Reynolds, our goal is "Excellent Instruction Every Day for Every Student in Every Class". Teachers are held to this high expectation--lesson plans are submitted and reviewed to be sure they are standards based, engaging, and have differentiation so that ALL students' needs will be met. Students encourage each other to achieve through collaborative grouping, projects, discussions, etc. Teachers offer tutoring and extension projects. Blended learning forums (Edgenuity, Compass Learning, Achieve 3000, Think Through Math, Khan Academy, Duolingo, etc) are utilized to be sure that remediation AND acceleration are offered/supported. As such, students at all levels are challenged and supported.
Does this work to ensure that students are learning what they need for the next level? YES! Our WSFCS School Report card rated Reynolds an A last year. We had one of the highest growth scores among high schools in our district. A much higher percentage of Reynolds students score a 3 or better on AP exams (earning them college credit) than the national, state, and district average. We offer FREE practice SAT and ACT tests with test taking strategies through Princeton Review and a FREE personalized online tutoring program for ACT preparation through Edgenuity. Our guidance counselors, Career Development Counselor, Social Worker, Magnet Director, and Family Engagement Counselor work with individual students to help them make a plan for the next step and achieve their goals.
There are so many opportunities for students to excel in leadership, community service, internships, and clubs that our students have FULL and IMPRESSIVE resumes when it comes time to apply to college.
What do our students do after high school? 54% attend a 4 year College/University, 28% attend Techinical/Community College, and 8% pursue employment or careers with the military.
The Class of 2016 earned more than $16 million in scholarships! Many of them came to visit over the winter holidays and have informed us that they are well-prepared for college and are excelling.
Alumni are studying in a variety of fields--including academic scholarships to Georgia Tech's Engineering Programs, Clemson's engineering programs, Parks Scholarships at NC State, Morehead Scholarships at UNC-CH, arts programs all over the country (including NYU, UNCSA, SCAD, Emerson), athletic scholarships, etc. We encourage students to discern their talents, interests, and strengths and to pursue THEIR goals!
